"in your mind's eye" photographic workshop
Thurmanovich Gallery are delighted to bring you this workshop on 14th April 2018 at the Horsebridge Arts Centre in Whitstable. The aim of this workshop is to help you see more photographically, and to better reflect what you've seen in your mind's eye. Anyone age 10 and above is welcome and you don't need a fancy camera to attend - a smartphone will do just as well as any digital or analogue camera.
Please note that this is not intended to be a technical workshop. We'll expect you to know how to use at least the basic functions on your photographic tool. We'll be focusing on the more esoteric topics of how we see (physically and mentally) and how we can translate that into an image.
The agenda for the day is:
09:00 - 10:30: coffees/teas, introductions and a presentation
10:30-14:00: photoshoot (we'll have dry weather and wet weather options)
14:00 -15:00: lunch/socialising (or you can use the time to photograph the waterfront outside the Centre)
15:00-17:00: presentation and discussion of images made during the day
Your instructors will be Karen and Mick Thurman, founders and owners of Thurmanovich Gallery and long-time photographers/exhibitors. Karen works mainly in large format (4x5) film and prints her silver gelatin and platinum prints in her own darkroom. Her work is often compared to that of Ansel Adams, which she finds flattering but a little exaggerated. Mick's work is largely digital and runs across styles from realistic to highly impressionist, depending on what he's seen and what he wants to say with the image.
The cost for the day is £75.00 per person, and includes coffees/teas, lunch, handouts and transport to the photoshoot location.
